Hunt Riley, aged 70 years, a prominent
farmer and citizen of Carvin's Cove, Botetourt County, died suddenly about 3 o'clock
yesterday afternoon of apoplexy while working in his garden. He was engaged in sharpening
a hoe when a member of the family noticed his struggle,
and before he could be carried into the house he was dead. Most of his life was spent in the
neighborhood in which he lived and died. He served three years in the Confederate Army,
and for fifty years or more had been a member of the Baptist Church. His wife died in 1910.
Mr. Riley is survived by six sons, one daughter,
thirty-four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The sons are:
James B., of Roanoke County; George T., of Hollins;
