PI KAPPA PHI

While I have no particular love for (non-service) fraternities in general, the Roanoke College chapter of Pi Kappa Phi earned my a special black mark in my book in late 1994.

By the beginning of the Fall 1994 semester at Roanoke, a lady I knew had happily discovered both alcohol and frat houses. Afterwards she could regularly be found going to the houses at night, including Pi Kap, in order to party and get free alcohol. She assumed that she could trust the boys enough so that when she got too drunk to go home safely, it would be OK to crash in one of their rooms and sleep off the party. She assumed they wouldn't think to take advantage of a beautiful lady while she was laying unconcious by their beds. See where this is going yet?

At any of the other Roanoke College houses, especially Kappa Alpha, she would have been right. But in Pi Kap, three of those trustworthy boys waited until she was asleep and spent much of the remaining night taking turns having sex with her, then spent the next few days bragging to their buddies about how they'd had her for hours and she never even woke up. As far as those few of us who heard their bragging knows--if it can be believed, a dubious question in itself--she really never did realize what had happened, and continued her nighttime excursions to the fraternities. For good or ill, we resolved never to tell her, either, though we tried every other way we could (without success) to keep her from going back. Our silence was to spare her emotions, especially since the rape happened before what she thought was her first intimate relationship. If you have any kind of problem with that, you can take it up with me in e-mail.

UPDATE FOR MARCH 2002:

Somebody finally does have a problem with this site (and me), and he has become my new favorite Joke of the Day.

The entire opening message from him about this site is reproduced below. In it and subsequent messages--and demonstrating the perfect example of the behavior that gave fraternities such a bad stereotype--he manages to hit on every theme from personal attacks against me to blaming the victim for being raped, repeatedly calling her "slutty". Doing a poor impersonation of a police officer, he also repeatedly demands that I give out the names of the three Pi Kaps singled out on this page.

Nor does he hit on these attack themes well. The fraternity brothers and sisters I knew were not dumb by any means (at least not most of them), but his letters have shown a remarkable stupidity across the board: his vocabulary is poor, he drones on the same pathetic insults over and over, his best attack is a poor and often-repeated round of name-calling, and--in the best irony so far--he constantly feels the need to call me immature (though, of course, he doesn't appear smart enough to know the word "immature," instead using phrases like "little boy"). His letters are also full of inconsistencies; for example, in the letter below he apparently refers to Pi Kap as "our house," yet in the next letter claimed not to belong to the fraternity.

Summing them up, his letters (if you'll pardon the cliche) sound like the angry ramblings of a mean drunk.

They say you can best judge a man not by his friends but by his enemies. So far I feel like I'm on pretty solid ground.

That's a wonderful article on your website about Pi Kappa Phi. I'm wondering since you knew so many of the kappers yourself you must have been the first to find out that your slutty friend was date raped. That's a big fucking rumor you like to start spreading especially when a loser like you wouldn't even show his face at our house. If you were such agood friend why did she keep coming back! If I had a friend that was raped I sure would let her know. Or maybe it's the fact you you weren't welcomed at any fraternity, you feel obligated to make it your life mission to make someone else look bad because you couldn't be a part of such a wonderful org at that time. If your so big and bad ass to put that on your web site, put some names up there let us know who raped your friend. She obviously loved it because she came back for more!
I would like to know what you think

It takes a lot more to get me riled than a few harassing e-mails from a poor writer whose brain never matured past the junior high school locker room. So apparently unhappy with my lack of interest in taking his bait, his e-constipation escalated from insults to libel...and true to form, he continued the ongoing attacks against the rape victim as well.

After forwarding them several of his messages, Hotmail started taking interest once the e-mails carried libelous content. I have been sent legal information, should I actually care enough to make a court issue of the matter, along with personal information about the user that included an address in Stevensville, VA. I don't know if the address is still valid or not, or if Hotmail was even provided with a real address. But for the time being, I was content with taking an easier road: Blocking any more of his messages from getting to me.

His last message to me also gave me blanket permission to say whatever I wanted to about him on my website. But while he may feel the need to try raising somebody's hackles by lying about them, there's no such need from my end. I archived his messages should I ever decide to publish them later, or otherwise make them public. Give somebody enough rope...

However, one constructive thing was sifted out of the diarrhea spewed by my toilet-minded critic: it did get me to considering that the Pi Kappa Phi boys who are at the Roanoke College house are not, I would hope, the same ones who were there during the Fall 1994 semester. That considered, I eased up on the house itself (a bit) in the main page above.

Overall there is one thing that I can't help wondering about. In the two years since I posted this page about Pi Kappa Phi, is this guy really the best defender the fraternity can dredge up? Even if I was a liar and all the other things he's accused me of, somebody like him would still make me look good.

Oh, and on a side note--Hotmail closed Anndee_Phorev's account on March 20, 2002.
