One of three triplets born on Christmas Day of 1915--his brothers were Robert Jr. and Rosley.

Uncle Rodney served in the army during World War Two, fighting in France and Germany, even bringing home a photo album of pictures he took overseas. He was also one of the soldiers who liberated the Dachau death camp in southern Germany in 1945.

He was a cook after the war, and opened up his own restaurants in Roanoke. One was called Riley's, which he ran with his brother Bob.
